Primitive Walk-in #2

Day 2 we were determined to camp (why else had we brought all this gear?). We packed up our cases, said goodbye to our warm dry cabin and set off towards Olympia.

For breakfast we stopped at Denny's where we were served by the world's most enthusiastic server. I don't think I'd ever had so many coffee refills in my life! Or been asked if I wanted "Pancake Puppies" so many times. We checked the weather forecast (rain and more rain for the surrounding 300 mile radius) and continued heading south in search of somewhere to set up camp for the night.

With ominous skies looming overhead we rode onwards, rainpants donned. After a brief pause at the Mount St-Helen's Visitor Centre we decided to stop for the night. Now came the all-important task of selecting the perfect campsite. We zig-zagged back and forth through each site (literally each one, there were only two other parties in the entire campground) when Mike decided it would be a good time to try skidding the back tire in some mud. The bike went over and so did we. The only damage being to the poor grass that got stuck to our side case.

After numerous laps, we finally decided on Primitive Walk-in #2. Partly because of the cheaper price, but mostly because of the name. We set up camp then rode into town to pick up supplies for the night.
In my spaceship.

Back at camp, we enjoyed a dinner of hot dogs and fire-roasted veggies. All accompanied by a "Chelada" (beer and Clamato juice in a can, don't knock it till you've tried it!) and of course, camping just wouldn't be camping without some Jiffy pop. We huddled around our fire in the pouring rain, leaving our campsite only once to visit with the only other people crazy enough to be camping in this kind of weather. Turns out they were packing up just as we showed up. They gave us a giant log and invited us to stop by their house in the morning in case we needed to warm up. We trudged back through the mud to our own camp and sat around our fire till the embers went out.
